We met Christien and Sjoukje in 2018 when we passed through Leeuwarden on a little trip through the Netherlands. We were fascinated by their exhibition and decided very spontaneously to involve them in the remodelling of our weekend house at Bullensee near Bremen, Northern Germany. We were so enthusiastic about the ideas and the Slow Living concept they developed for our 60 square meter weekend house that we followed almost all of their recommendations. This concerned the very good advice to take out a false ceiling and open up the roof further. This also applied to the recommendation to replace the single-glazed windows with new ones and to implement further measures for energy-efficient renovation. The design is inspired by the wooded nature. Only natural materials were used: wood, fur, linen, hemp, marble. Together with the very successful colour concept on the walls, doors and built-in cupboards (Farrow & Ball: Hague Blue, Mizzle, Pigeon), an environment has been created that triggers the feeling for us: Being here is wonderful! Christien and Sjoukje have managed in a wonderful and sensitive way to breathe new life into our little gem from 1968, built by the well-known Bremen architect Gildemeister. The strong character of the house has been preserved and reinterpreted for our time. We are very grateful for this great support. The personal encounter with the de Jong family, who came to Germany three times, was also very sympathetic. We can highly recommend the team.
